Our Philosophy
We raise gentle, obedient and athletic
horses.
We are breeders that begin with some very beautiful horses
that come from excellent bloodlines. Our focus is to breed in
such a way as to produce Tobiano Paint Horses that have excellent
confirmation and athletic ability. We handle our babies from
the time that they are born so that they are calm and very
gentle. When we saddle up one of our horses for the first time
there is no resistance, no bucking, just a calm horse that is
ready to learn what is expected. |
The Gentling Process:
-
We
imprint at birth so that our foals are friendly and easy to
approach.
-
We desensitize the babies preparing them for
all the different kinds of handling that they will experience
throughout their lives.
-
We give them sensitization
training constantly reinforcing things such as lifting their
legs, movement in response to hand pressure, leading, the feel
of a rope, the cinch and much more.
-
We teach the babies
the discipline of standing with and without a lead rope. They
are taught to lead through an obstacle course with all types
of challenges.
-
We wean the baby between 4 and 6 months
and make an effort to spend extra time with them during the
weaning process to reinforce bonding.
-
By the time they
are 14 to 15 months we begin to bit break them with a rubber
bit that they can chew on.
-
By the time they are two
years old we saddle them up and advance the level of ground
work teaching them to respond to the reigns.
-
When they
are 2.5 years old a rider will mount them (once a week) and do
very light work, such as mounting, turns, stop and go and
standing.
-
At three years old we advance the level of
work and training. We are very careful not to push them too
hard until they are four years old.
